Notoriety, Inc. was founded by Hanh Nguyen and Madeleine Hoang in December 2001. The Company's first major concert took place in the Martha B. Knoebel Theater at the California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) in April 2001. The concert was co-sponsored by CSULB's Dance Department, advertised in the Orange County Register, and covered live by the International Channel. The Irvine World News was in attendance at Notoriety’s second event, and gave Notoriety, Inc. its first press review as well as a cover story on Artistic Director Hanh Nguyen, who was interviewed in her home studio and performance venue, "The Space" in Irvine. Michael Rydzynski, Irvine World News, commented, "Nguyen used many different types of musical accompaniments...each work differed from one another, yet amazingly offered a strong sense of balance and symmetry overall."

It denotes the existence of a simultaneously aggressive, soft force which is prominent and necessary in all aspects of today's living. I am involved because I have a voice and a meaning to express." 'Gotcha' was performed on top of the 2nd City Council Art Gallery's 4600 sq. ft. rooftop patio at the Ocean Center Building.
